Mortgage Marketing on Twitter – 2 Unconventional Twitter Topics

One of the biggest questions mortgage professionals ask me about marketing on twitter is “What shall I write about?”

That’s a tough one – after all, the last person you want to be is the one who tweets about what they had for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

There are a number of mortgage specific topics you could discuss on twitter, but in this blog post I’d like to share two off-topic ideas that will help you attract followers that (a) share your mindset or (b) are in your geographic area.

• Twitter Topic #1 – Quotes

  No, not mortgage quotes. I mean quotations which, for some reason, are incredibly popular on twitter.

  Quotes that resonate will get re-tweeted, thereby attracting more followers to your twitter stream. The quotes you choose allow your followers to learn about your personality, and will attract people to your twitter stream who share your mindset. 

  One of my quotes was picked up by a real estate professional in Canada, who retweeted it to her followers. In no time at all, I had several new followers from her list.

  To find a source for your quotations, try searching google. One of my favorite sources for quotations is the Wisdom Quotes site. Use a tool like Hootsuite to schedule your quotations in advance.

• Twitter Topic # 2 – Local Events

  Local events are also another popular twitter topic. Choose one event type (business networking events, kid friendly events, nightlife, sports-related events). Send tweets about those events, and you will attract followers from your geographic farm area. Since most mortgage business is local, you can’t go wrong with this tactic.
